What a steel and iron trader needs from billing software
Heavy stock counted in kg, sold in pieces and tons, trucks going out every day and a lot of credit. These are the parts that matter.
Kg in stock, pieces on the bill
Keep a 12 mm TMT bar in KG and add PCS = 10.66 KG, BUNDLE or TON = 1000 KG as other units. A line in PCS takes the per-piece rate and takes the kg out of stock, so stock is always counted in kg. Other units work on every plan.
A fixed factor per item
Each item's conversion is fixed, and it is saved on the bill line, so changing it later never changes an old bill. For loads you weigh, bill in kg: a line in pieces moves the set kg per piece, not the weight on the weighbridge.

What a delivery challan isLoad sheets by vehicle and route
Make a load sheet per vehicle or route from the day's saved invoices: one list of what to load, delivered or returned against each invoice, and a PDF for the driver. Vehicle and transport details print on the invoice. Free.
Contractor and dealer rates
Put contractors and dealers on price lists, with quantity slabs and dated schemes, and their bills take the list rate by themselves (Pro). On any bill, the last three rates you gave that customer show under the rate box, with a warning below cost. An item's wholesale price applies on its own at the POS only.
Credit limits that warn
Set a credit limit and credit days per customer. Past the limit or the overdue days, the bill warns, or needs the owner's approval if you switch that on. It does not block the bill outright. Works on Free.
Customer ledgerPurchase bills by the ton
Enter the mill's or distributor's bill in tons or kg with its GST. Stock goes up in kg, input GST is recorded and the supplier's payable is in his ledger. Purchase bills are part of Pro.
A week at a steel trader using VyapRise
Simple numbers, so you can follow each step.
Monday: the mill's truck. 9 tons of 12 mm TMT arrive. You enter the purchase bill as 9 TON; stock goes up by 9,000 kg.
Tuesday: a contractor's quote. A contractor asks for 120 pieces of 12 mm TMT and 2 tons of 8 mm for a building. You send a quotation, and when he agrees you convert it to a sale order; his Contractor price list fills the rates.
Wednesday: the first lot. 60 pieces go out on a delivery challan with the truck number. At 10.66 kg a piece, the line takes 639.6 kg out of stock. Invoiced loads go on a load sheet for each vehicle.
Thursday: a weighed load. A fabricator buys a mixed load of angles and channels that weighs 1,284 kg on the weighbridge. You bill it in kg at the kg rate, because a line in pieces would use the fixed factor, not the weighed weight.
Friday: a credit check. A dealer already owes ₹4,60,000 against a limit of ₹5,00,000. His new bill of ₹70,000 warns that he will cross it, so you take a cheque first.
Saturday: billing the week. You select the contractor's challans and make one invoice; the sale order shows how much is still to deliver.
- Size and weight sit on the item (12 mm × 12 m, 10.66 kg a piece), so staff pick the right bar and the right factor.
- Each item keeps its own HSN and GST rate; confirm each HSN and rate with your CA.

Common questions
Can I keep steel stock in kg and sell by the piece?
Yes, on every plan. Keep the item in KG and add other units with a fixed factor, such as PCS = 10.66 KG for a 12 mm bar or TON = 1000 KG. A line in pieces bills the per-piece rate and takes the kg out of stock.
What if a load weighs more or less than the standard weight?
The factor is fixed per item, so a line in pieces always moves the set kg per piece. When you weigh a load, bill it in kg at the kg rate and stock moves by the weighed kg. VyapRise does not record the weight of each piece on a line billed in pieces, and it has no cut-to-length calculator.
Can I send steel on a challan and bill it later?
Yes, on Pro. Send goods on delivery challans with the vehicle number, then bill several challans on one invoice. Load sheets per vehicle or route work on every plan.
Can contractors and dealers get their own rates?
Yes. Pro has customer price lists with quantity slabs and dated schemes, so a contractor's bill takes his rates by itself. On any plan you can change the rate on a line, and the last three rates you gave that customer show under the rate box.
