Free barcode generator
Free barcode generator for products: EAN-13 and Code 128
Make a scannable barcode for any product, add the name and MRP, then download it or print a full A4 sheet of labels. Runs in your browser, no sign-up.
- EAN-13 check digit added
- PNG and SVG download
- A4 label sheets
Type 12 digits and the check digit is worked out for you. Type all 13 and it is checked.
No barcode yet? Make an in-store code
Codes starting with 2 are reserved for use inside one business: your own scanner reads them, but they are not unique worldwide. Give each item its own number: 1, 2, 3 and so on.
In-store codes work only on your own counter and godown. If the product will be sold through retail chains or online marketplaces, it needs a GS1 India barcode (starting 890), which you get by registering with GS1 India.
Your barcode appears here as you type.
What the barcode generator does

EAN-13 for packaged products, Code 128 for item codes with letters, dashes or any length up to 40 characters.
Check digit done for you
Type 12 digits and the 13th is calculated. Type 13 and a wrong check digit is caught before you print.
PNG or SVG download
PNG for Word, Canva or WhatsApp; SVG stays sharp at any size for packaging artwork.
A4 label sheets
Print 12 to 65 copies per A4 sheet on ready-cut stickers, with the product name and MRP on each label.
How to print barcode labels in 4 steps
- 01
Make the barcode
Choose EAN-13 or Code 128 and type the number, or use the in-store code helper. Add the product name and MRP if you want them on the label.
- 02
Pick the sticker sheet
Select the A4 sheet that matches the stickers you bought (the size is printed on the pack) and the number of copies.
- 03
Print at 100% scale
Open the print view and print with scale at 100% and margins at none or default. "Fit to page" shrinks the layout and the labels drift off the stickers.
- 04
Test with your scanner
Scan one label into a notepad or your billing software. If it reads, print the rest; if not, try a larger sticker or a darker print setting.
EAN-13 vs Code 128: which barcode for your products
EAN-13 is the 13-digit barcode on almost every packaged product in India. The first digits identify the company that issued it (890 for codes issued in India), the next digits identify the product, and the last digit is a check digit worked out from the other twelve. A scanner recalculates that digit on every scan, so a smudged or misread code is rejected instead of billing the wrong item. This EAN-13 barcode generator works the check digit out for you.
Code 128 can carry letters, digits and symbols of any length. It is the right choice for your own item codes (SHIRT-M-BLUE, BOLT-M8-50), godown bin labels and asset tags. It packs long runs of digits two to a symbol, so a numeric item code stays short enough for a small sticker.
Barcode types compared
| EAN-13 | Code 128 | |
|---|---|---|
| What it holds | 13 digits, the last one a check digit | Letters, digits and symbols, any length |
| Best for | Products you sell, retail packaging | Item codes, SKUs, bins, assets |
| Read by retail scanners | Yes, everywhere | Yes, on most handheld scanners |
| Needs registration | Yes for retail chains (GS1 India, 890…); no for in-store codes (2…) | No |
GS1 India codes vs in-store barcodes
GS1 is the body that hands out product barcode numbers worldwide, and GS1 India issues the numbers that start with 890. A product that will sit on a supermarket shelf, go to a retail chain or be listed on an online marketplace needs one of these, because the buyer's system checks that the number is really registered to your company. You register with GS1 India, they give your company a number range, and you assign one number to each product.
If you only need to bill faster at your own counter, you do not need GS1. Barcodes that start with 2 are set aside for use inside one business. The in-store helper in this barcode label maker builds them as 2 + your item number + a check digit, so item 1 is 2000000000015, item 2 is 2000000000022, and so on. They scan like any other EAN-13 but mean nothing outside your shop, so never print them on goods you sell on to other businesses.
How to print barcode labels that scan
A barcode fails to scan for a few predictable reasons: it was printed too small, the printer shrank it, there is not enough white space on either side, or the bars are grey instead of black. The generator leaves the white margin (the quiet zone) a scanner needs, so do not crop the image tight when you place it in your own design.
Use a laser printer or a good inkjet on matt sticker paper. Glossy stickers can reflect the scanner's light. Keep the bars black on white; coloured bars or a coloured background scan poorly. When you place the PNG in another document, resize it by dragging a corner so it keeps its proportions.
Barcodes for every item at once with VyapRise
This free tool makes one barcode at a time. In VyapRise barcode billing, the barcode is a field on each item: you can type the manufacturer's EAN-13, UPC or Code 128, or let VyapRise generate an in-store EAN-13 starting with 2. Scanning manufacturer barcodes on sales invoices is on the Free plan; scanning on purchase bills, in-store codes and label printing are part of Pro (₹1,499 per year, and in the 7-day free trial).
Label printing works from the same item list. Pick the items and the number of copies, choose an A4 sheet (65, 40, 24, 21, 12, 8 or 4 labels per sheet, or a custom size) and print. A label can carry the item name, barcode, MRP and net quantity, plus a batch number and MFG or expiry date that you type for that print run; those dates are printed, not stored against the stock.
At billing time a USB or Bluetooth scanner adds the item to a sales invoice, or to a purchase bill (Pro), in one beep, and the stock updates in inventory. The full-screen POS counter also bills by scanning; POS is part of Pro. Labels print on A4 sheets or on 50 × 25 mm and 38 × 25 mm roll labels through the browser print dialog, with no printer-specific driver. To be clear about what it does not do yet: VyapRise does not scan with a phone camera.
Barcode generator: common questions
Is this barcode generator free for products?
Yes. You can make as many EAN-13 and Code 128 barcodes as you like, download them as PNG or SVG and print label sheets, with no sign-up and no watermark. The barcode is drawn in your browser; nothing you type is sent to our server.
Can I put an in-store barcode on products I sell to supermarkets or online marketplaces?
No. Codes starting with 2 are for use inside your own business only: your billing counter and your godown. Retail chains and marketplaces expect a GS1 India barcode starting with 890, which is issued to your company when you register with GS1 India. Once you have that number, type it into the EAN-13 box here to print it.
Should I use EAN-13 or Code 128?
Use EAN-13 for products you sell: it is the barcode printed on packaged goods and every retail scanner reads it. Use Code 128 when your code has letters or dashes, such as an item code like SHIRT-M-BLUE, a godown bin or an asset tag.
What size should I print an EAN-13 barcode?
The standard EAN-13 size is about 37.3 mm wide and 25.9 mm tall, and it can be printed smaller or larger within limits. For your own counter with a handheld scanner, a shorter barcode on a 38 × 21 mm or 52.5 × 29.7 mm sticker usually scans well. Print one sheet and test it with your scanner before printing a full batch.
Will my barcode scanner read these barcodes?
Most USB and Bluetooth scanners read EAN-13 and Code 128 without any setup. The scanner types the number like a keyboard, so you can test it by scanning into a notepad. If nothing comes through, check the scanner manual to make sure these two types are switched on.
