A customer ledger in VyapRise with demo data: dated invoices and receipts with debit, credit and running balance columns, and the closing balance.

What is Accounting Software?

In VyapRise every invoice, purchase bill, receipt and payment posts its own double-entry journal, so party ledgers, bank balances and outstanding are right as you work.

Party ledgers for the current month, bank accounts and bank reconciliation are on the Free plan; purchase bills, receipts, payment vouchers, credit and debit notes, ledgers for any period, the trial balance, P&L, balance sheet and Tally export are part of Pro.

What the accounting software covers

  • Books that write themselves

Sales invoices, purchase bills, credit and debit notes, receipts and payments each post a balanced journal entry. You never key the same bill twice, once for GST and once for accounts.

  • Party ledgers and outstanding

Every customer and supplier has a running ledger, invoice-wise outstanding and ageing buckets. Share a statement through WhatsApp click-to-chat. On Free the ledger shows the current month; on Pro, any period and a statement PDF.

  • Bank accounts and reconciliation

Keep each bank account with its transactions, import the bank statement as CSV, XLS or XLSX so its lines are matched to your entries, confirm, and get a bank reconciliation statement that explains the difference. Free.

  • Vouchers and chart of accounts

On Pro, edit the chart of accounts, pass journal vouchers and contra entries, record expenses with a photo of the bill, and tag entries to cost centres.

  • Financial statements

On Pro, run the day book, trial balance, profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow and cost-centre P&L for any date range, and download them as PDF, CSV or Excel.

  • Tally Prime XML, both ways

On Pro, export ledgers and vouchers as Tally Prime XML for a CA who works in Tally, or import them from Tally when you move across.

    VyapRise as a Tally alternative

How double-entry accounting happens without you typing it

Say a wholesaler sells goods worth ₹10,000 plus 18% GST to a customer in the same state. The invoice totals ₹11,800. Behind it, VyapRise posts a journal: the customer is debited ₹11,800, sales is credited ₹10,000, and output CGST and output SGST are credited ₹900 each. Debits equal credits, and the customer ledger now shows ₹11,800 due on the invoice due date worked out from the credit period.

Two weeks later the customer pays ₹11,700 into your bank account and tells you they deducted ₹100 as TDS. You open a payment receipt (Pro), pick the bank account, enter ₹11,700 received and ₹100 TDS, and allocate it against that invoice. The invoice shows as paid, the customer balance goes to zero, and the bank account rises by ₹11,700. If the customer also owes on bills from before you started using VyapRise, the receipt can be set against those old invoices too.

The purchase side works the same way. A supplier bill of ₹5,000 plus ₹900 GST credits the supplier ₹5,900 and debits purchases and input tax. When you pay, a payment voucher (Pro) is allocated against that bill, and the supplier ledger shows exactly which bills are still open. If you deduct TDS, say on a contractor bill, enter the TDS amount, section and rate on the Payment Out; the TDS register then lists it by party and quarter, ready to match with Form 26AS. Opening balances for customers, suppliers and bank accounts are entered once, on the Free plan, so the ledgers start from the right figure.

At month end, import the statement your bank gives you as CSV, XLS or XLSX on the Bank Reconciliation screen. VyapRise matches its lines to your entries, you confirm them, and the bank reconciliation statement lists what has not cleared yet: a cheque you issued that the supplier has not banked, or a deposit that the bank shows tomorrow. Book balance and bank balance then agree on paper. On Pro, post-dated cheques from customers wait in their own register as due, post-dated, cleared or bounced, and marking one bounced reverses its receipt.

On Pro the rest of the books open up. Rent of ₹15,000 goes in as an expense with a photo of the bill. Cash taken to the bank is a contra entry. A depreciation or correction entry is a journal voucher. The trial balance, P&L and balance sheet are built from every posted entry, and you can trace any figure back account by account. If a fast-selling item still makes little money, gross profit vs net profit explains why; if money is short despite profit, read what cash flow is.

  • Every document posts its own entry, so the ledger and the bill can never disagree.
  • Receipts and payments are allocated bill by bill, so outstanding is invoice-wise, not just a balance.
  • The double-entry accounting software runs on all plans; Pro adds receipts and payments, the statements and manual vouchers.

Is this online accounting software right for your business?

A good fit if you

  • Want billing, stock and books in one place instead of a billing app plus a separate accounts package
  • Need invoice-wise outstanding and bill-wise supplier payments
  • Want bank reconciliation without paying for it
  • Work with a CA who uses Tally and would take a Tally Prime XML export (Pro)
  • Are a trader, distributor or small manufacturer with one company and one GSTIN

Not a fit yet if you need

TDS or TCS returns. VyapRise records TDS on both sides, deducted by your customers and deducted by you on supplier payments, with a TDS register by quarter, and adds TCS on a sales invoice when you give a rate, with a TCS register and, from 2026-27, the quarterly Form 143 statement file for your CA (Pro), but it does not prepare TDS returns or file or upload the TCS return. There is no dedicated cash book screen (cash movements show in the day book on Pro), no GST return filing, and no combined books across branches or companies (one login can hold several companies, but each keeps its own books). If your firm needs these, keep your current package or use VyapRise alongside it with a Tally export.

Common questions

Is VyapRise real double-entry accounting software?

Yes. Every sales invoice, purchase bill, credit or debit note, receipt and payment posts a balanced journal entry. The trial balance, P&L and balance sheet on Pro are built from those posted entries, not from a separate summary.

Which accounting features are free?

Party ledgers, outstanding and ageing for the current month, payments recorded on the invoice, bank accounts, bank statement import, bank reconciliation and opening balances are on the Free plan. Purchase bills, payment receipts and payment vouchers with bill allocation, credit and debit notes, TDS with the TDS register, post-dated cheques, ledgers for any period, the chart of accounts, journal and contra vouchers, expenses, cost centres, the financial statements and Tally XML are part of Pro at ₹1,499 per year. Every new company gets 7 days of Pro free.

Can my CA use Tally with this online accounting software?

Yes, on Pro. VyapRise exports ledgers and vouchers as Tally Prime XML, and it can import them from Tally too. Reports can also be downloaded as PDF or CSV.

Does it handle TDS and TCS?

Yes, both. TDS your customer deducts is recorded on the receipt. TDS you deduct when paying a supplier goes on the Payment Out with its section and rate, and the TDS register shows it by party and quarter so you can match Form 26AS. Both are part of Pro. TCS on sales, as on scrap (section 206C(1) up to March 2026, section 394(1) of the Income-tax Act, 2025 from 1 April 2026), is a % you enter on the sales invoice: it is added to the bill after GST and booked to TCS Payable, on every plan. On Pro, a credit note gives back its share of the TCS, and the TCS Register shows TCS by buyer and quarter and your challan deposits against their due dates. From 2026-27 it makes the quarter's Form 143 statement file (Form 143 replaced Form 27EQ), which your CA validates with Protean's FVU and uploads; for years up to 2025-26 it gives a CSV per quarter for Form 27EQ. VyapRise does not prepare TDS returns, does not file or upload the TCS return or issue the TCS certificate (it comes from TRACES), and does not decide whether TCS applies; confirm that with your CA.

Is there a cash book?

Not as a separate screen. Cash movements appear in the day book, and bank movements in the bank ledger, both on Pro. Contra entries for cash deposited or withdrawn are also Pro.

Can this accounting software for small business in India file my GST returns?

No. On Pro it prepares GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, HSN summary and GSTR-2B reconciliation reports (PDF, CSV and Excel), shows the due dates, checks your GSTR-1 against the portal's rules before filing and emails the month's returns to your CA. You or your CA file on the GST portal; it does not file returns itself.
